GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Rooted in neuroscience and clinical research, we uniquely combine behavior design and patent-pending artificial intelligence (AI) to tailor to varied mobility and needs, make creative arts therapy accessible to all, and reduce isolation and loneliness.

Medical Research Supports Creative Arts

Did you know? Clinical research proves that Creative Arts Therapy (CAT: Music, Dance, and Art) has incredible healing power, and is one of the most cost-effective therapies.

CAT improves cancer patients’ QoL by 50% and reduces pain by 59%. Dancing reduces the risk of dementia by 76% and cardiovascular death by 46%; improves balance by 50%, increases muscle strength, and prevents falls; lowers stress, cultivates wellness and meaningful social bonds. Hand/finger exercises increase motor skills, brain communication efficiency, coordination, and timing.

Designed to Build Habits With Buddies

Our product is designed to cultivate positive behavior change. Thanks to the mentorship from David Kelley, Dennis Boyle, and BJ Fogg, we practice empathy-driven behavior design.

Guided by Fogg’s Behavior Model (Motivation, Ability, Prompt): we empathize with users’ motivation; increase their ability by offering 24/7 access to pre-recorded dance videos from our in-person classes; create the most effective prompts such as buddy-matching and personalization with our patent-pending AI. Research shows people perform better in groups, but excel with a buddy!

WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID...

From Our Stanford Cancer Supportive Care Program

"In 2014, I was under chemo treatment for my breast cancer. It was from a fellow patient that I learned of Dance4Healing. After reading the flyer, I signed up right away though it took a couple of months for it to start. The program was very unique. We learned to dance from very caring and compassionate dance professionals and with people who were going through similar ordeals. We danced, laughed, and shared our treatment experiences. In the meantime, we were getting the physical exercise we need to get stronger and healthier. This program nurtures our body and mind at the time when we feel most vulnerable and isolated. I would strongly recommend this program to people who are going through health challenges. I would sincerely hope that the medical professionals realize the value of this program that brings to their patients."

- Grace L
"Dance4Healing's Stanford Cancer Supportive Care Program got me moving and feeling positive and hopeful that my body and mind would return healed and ready to live fully. I felt happier after classes and my depression lessened."

-Kimberly B
"When I was in chemotherapy I was this whole week just waiting for the time to go to Dance4Healing. No matter how miserable I felt or how much my joints would hurt I know everything would disappear while I was dancing in such a supportive environment. Dance4Healing has had such a big impact on my life that I have continued dancing after the program finished. I have enrolled in ballroom dance, Zumba, and Bollywood dancing. Now dancing has become a part of my life that keeps me engaged, healthy, and happy. I wish programs like Dance4Healing were offered to all people."

- Meri G
"When I first came, I said 'OK, I will give it a try. Sounds like a good program.' But I didn't expect it to be so great. It's so creative, I think the most amazing thing is that I met a group of people. We are open-minded, we want to try new things to help us. And we take actions, we are not just sitting there. We are determined to help each other. We are brave I think, and we dare to express ourselves even though we know we are not the best dancers in the world. We are so fortunate to have all the amazing teachers, you really made a difference in our lives."

- June L
"Dance4Healing came into my life when I was afraid because of a pending cancer diagnosis. I participated in Dance4Healing and that ‘old happy feeling’ started to come back. The dancing raised the endorphins and gave me a ‘happy boost.’ Being with others who had experienced similar medical challenges was a support system in the making. Also, the art and sharing we did at the end of each session made me feel accepted. I could go on! Looking forward each week to my next Dance4Healing get-together, was what kept me going. A regular dance class would not have had the same effect. I needed to be with those going through the same thing. Also, my finances were limited and the class was offered at ‘no cost’ Thank you Amy and Stanford for what you did and do for us. I couldn’t have faced the medical challenge and kept my spirits up without you."

- Joan C
"Last year January I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer, the lump was found by my OB and I had a lumpectomy in March of last year, went through chemo and radiation, and finished my radiation last year September and I am now a cancer survivor, trying to learn a little bit about myself, and keep some stress away from my life, do some dancing, and some support with the community. Joining the Dance4Healing program has been amazing. I love my time with amazing and loving people, and It’s been a great healing journey. The bond we have made with each other, and the bond through dance has been amazing."
- Fiona D
"Before Dance4Healing, I spent a lot of time outside my body, disassociating from the body that betrayed me. But I miss her, my body, I miss feeling powerful, confident, beautiful, and healthy. I came to the dance as a way to reconnect with her. Every day she and I can become one, and I can trust her once again. Accept the things she can do, and forgive the things she couldn’t. And we can fall in love with each other again."

GENESIS

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade

Our Humble Beginnings

Amy Li founded Dance4Healing months after she conquered Stage IV cancer. As a graduate of Singularity University, she sought to leverage exponential technology and her expertise in behavior design and AI research to make a difference in the lives of others who may be in similar challenging situations.
Our Pilot Program

Dance4Healing's first program started as a cancer care project with the Stanford Supportive Care Program. During this phase Dance4Healing was so clinically successful that the decision was made to expand the company’s scope to include both eldercare and chronic patients.
Transition to Full Service

Dance4Healing has partnered and mentored by leaders from Dance for PD, the AHA, and AARP, among others to cater to this wider demographic. Its technology and impact have been praised by patients and physicians, and have been featured at conferences like SXSW, Health 2.0, HXR, HTF. D4H has won over 20 awards, such as AARP CES annual pitch “People’s Choice Award” and Top 5 Semi-Finalist Worldwide for Pfizer's Advancing Care for mBC Patients Challenge.
Expanding Our Reach

During the Stanford Startup Garage program, Dance4Healing conducted 100 interviews in over 20 elder communities. Also, we worked alongside OnLok, CEI, Avenidas, and a host of other elder care leader companies to tailor the platform design to suit the preferences and abilities of older adults. Currently, we are in partnership discussions with multiple elder tech leading organizations about expanding nationwide, and participating in the NIH AAP program to create a paradigm-shifting AI algorithm that will be a game-changer for creating "Precision Medicine" in the Creative Arts.
